The GI Cancers Alliance works to raise awareness, provide education, and advocate to prevent, treat, and cure gastrointestinal cancers through a collaboration between advocacy groups, industry, and institutional partners.
Gastrointestinal Cancer Types

Anus
Most cases are caused by the HPV virus; rates are increasing around the world.

Appendix
Less than 1% of all GI cancers but rates are increasing, especially in young adults.

Cholangiocarcinoma
Also known as bile duct cancer; a biliary tract cancer that’s rare and aggressive.

Colon
The most common form of GI cancer and one of the top cancers worldwide.

Esophagus
Around 6% of GI cancers; often caused by a condition called Barrett’s esophagus.

Gallbladder
A biliary tract cancer often identified through incidental findings during other procedures or tests.

Liver
Makes up 9-11% of all GI cancer cases; rates have tripled since 1980.

Pancreas
Around 18-19% of all GI cancer cases; rising most rapidly in young women.

Rectum
One of the top cancers worldwide; rectal tumors are more common in younger patients.

Small Intestine
Around 3-4% of all GI cancers; can form from several tumor types.

Gastric
Also known as stomach cancer; one of the top five cancers worldwide.

Neuroendocrine
A unique tumor type that can appear in several places throughout the GI tract.
