"Danielle is well-respected throughout the gastrointestinal cancer community, and she is an excellent addition to our leadership team as we continue expanding our global reach and partnership initiatives,” said Martha Raymond, CEO of GI Cancers Alliance and Raymond Foundation.

Burgess brings over a decade of experience to the role, having previously worked as a nonprofit consultant as well as Communications Director and VP of Disease Awareness at Fight Colorectal Cancer.

She is a published author as well as an award-winning communications professional who has helped design and lead awareness and educational campaigns that have reached millions, and she's passionate about creating resources that help patients and their families.

As a three-time, 25-year-survivor of colorectal cancer herself, she’s passionate about making sure the patient voice is heard. She sees the clear need for a collective voice amongst the GI cancers community and will help foster a spirit of collaboration among advocacy groups, academic centers, media, and industry partners.

“I am extremely honored and excited to join the highly respected GI Cancers Alliance and use my advocacy experience to help grow the organization’s  membership while also creating ways to educate and support patients directly and by connecting them to our members,” said Burgess.
